NFL – Week 16 Rundown

This has been one of the most entertaining NFL seasons I’ve ever experienced. It’s my first year covering the NFL, and I’ve never paid as much attention to the game like I do now, but I feel like we are getting weekly upsets, fights, last minute scores, and HUGE games with playoff implications. I mean we get a Monday Night Football game to decide the NFC North, how do you beat that?!

Let’s recap the games from Sunday. ***Only doing games involving teams with playoff implications***

The Ravens have clinched the top seed in the AFC after taking care of the Browns on Sunday. They started slow but Lamar Jackson turned it on towards the end of the second quarter and that’s all she wrote. He had 17 rushes for 103 yards and added 238 yards passing with 3 TD’s. Mark Andrews had one of his most impressive games of the season, and that’s saying a lot considering he has been one of the best tight end’s in football. The Ravens had 12 players named to the Pro-Bowl this week, which led the NFL, and out of the 12, 8 were drafted by the team. Can’t say enough about how good Ozzie Newsome and the front office of the Baltimore Ravens has been. The Browns fall to 6-9.

The Saints remain in the hunt of the first seed in the NFC after an impressive second-half offensive performance leads them past the Tennessee Titans. The Titans took an early 14-0 lead, but could not do much more after that. The Saints caught fire in the second half with Brees, 3 TD’s, and Thomas, 135 yards and a TD. Michael Thomas is having an unreal season at wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints.

Michael Thomas leads all wide receivers with 133 receptions and 1,552 yards.

Tannehill continues his magical season with 272 yards and 3 touchdowns. We can’t blame their stalled offense totally on Tannehill, as not having running-back Derrick Henry did not help the teams rhythm on offense. The Titans remain alive for the playoffs, but they need to take care of business against the Texans, who have already clinched a playoff spot, in Week 17.

The Steelers have a terrible QB situation. They are currently playing musical chairs with Mason Rudolph and Devlin “Duck” Hodges. After QB Ben Rothlisberger was hurt in the beginning of the season, Mason Rudolph replaced him, he played really bad, and then he gets benched. The “Duck” replaces him and does really well and continues as the starter, as Mike Tomlin said best:

Fast forward to the Bills game, Duck Hodges throws 3 interceptions and the Steelers lose. And then Tomlin, who has been great this season, splits reps at QB all week in practice, gives Hodges no confidence, and then is surprised when he struggles early and he has to replace him.

While Tomlin has been handed a difficult task in replacing a hall of fame QB with backups, I have a feel that Tomlin is just plugging either guy in and saying a prayer. Is it all Tomlin’s fault that both guys haven’t played well? I assume not, but splitting reps just discourages the starter and it can defeat rhythm.

The Steelers, 8-7, can make the playoffs if:

1. They beat the Ravens in Baltimore.

2. The Titans lose against the Texans.

It was a weird day for upsets as the Seahawks lost to the Cardinals in Seattle. The Seahawks are banged up, with starters on both sides of the ball missing games.

Seattle lost both Chris Carson and C.J Procise to injury in a matter of minutes. Both will be out for the rest of the season. They join Duane Brown, Jadaveon Clowney, Quandre Diggs, and many more players who are currently sidelined with injuries. To make things even worse, the Seahawks travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers for the division title next week.

I think it’s time Seattle put the ball into the hands of their superstar QB to get the job done on Sunday against the 49ers. Russell Wilson has the big contract, and he needs to perform in those types of games. I can not wait to watch that game.

Carson. Wentz.

The mainstream media constantly shits on him all season, and he went out there and flat out delivered the last 3 weeks. Wentz finished 31-40 with 319 yards and a touchdown. It says a lot about the Eagles coaching staffs confidence in Wentz that he threw 40 times to 3 active WR.

The Cowboys are dead. Jason Garrett should be fired before the playoffs are over. I am starting to think about who they’ll hire. I will give my guess on the podcast this week.

I thought the Eagles defense really stepped up on Sunday. Malcom Jenkins, Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox all established the tone early, and the young guys brought the energy when they needed it.

The Eagles still need to get a win in New Jersey next week against the Giants to win the NFC East officially, but it’s more than possible. They could also win with a Cowboys loss.

Mahomes is back. I’ve been saying it all year: We take Patrick Mahomes for granted. He is consistently great. He battled through a lot of injuries this season, but he has showed that when healthy, there aren’t many quarterbacks better than him, if any. He finished with 251 and 3 TD’s (1 rushing) as the Chiefs took care of the Bears on Sunday night.

NFL – Week 15 Rundown

Week 15. The time for teams who want to make the playoffs to slam on the gas pedal. We do a rundown of every game from Sunday.

Eagles 37-27 Redskins

Wentz comes up big late for the second week in a row. 18-21 141 yards 3 TD’s. Incredible resilience by this Eagles team. Jackson, Jeffery, Agholor, Sproles and company all out injured. This offense had life in the second half. The Eagles defense was shaky all game, they need to tighten up, especially against Dallas. All signs point to next week. Often this team has come out flat in big games. They need that energy on Sunday against the Cowboys. I have total faith in this team because of this QB. And Miles Sanders. Lets talk about him too please. He’s becoming a superstar. 19 for 122 and a TD. Can’t stress how important next week is. A lot of guys jobs depend on it. Eagles have to win.

Texans 24-21 Titans

This division is awesome. Just when you think Tennessee has control, boom. The Texans have life again and lead the AFC South at 9-5. Can’t say enough about how good Tannehill has been. I like this Titans team a lot. Thought they lost any chance once Henry went down on Sunday. He’s the heart of that offense and they need him. These two teams play again in two weeks, and it should be a lot of fun.

Falcons 29-49ers 22

I thought San Francisco was the favorite to win the NFC and would cruise through the rest of the season. I might have been wrong. How about the Atlanta Falcons? They played well. Going to be interesting to see what they do about the coaching situation. Dan Quinn has been praised in the locker room. He’s liked by the players. I think he sticks around for next season but who knows. The 49ers need to quickly forget about this one. They can still win the NFC.

Bills 17-Steelers 10

Mike Tomlin said that Devlin Hodges hasn’t “killed” the Steelers. Well, on Sunday night, he did. Gotta give credit to the Bills. They simply made more plays than the Steelers. Allen was great against a tough Steelers defense. Game winning touchdown pass. Hodges then threw the game-clinching pick late, twice, and the Bills hung on. It’s insane that the Bills can still win the AFC East. Not likely, but wilder things have happened.

Patriots 34-Bengals 13

“We’re on to the Bills.” Brady throws a pair of touchdowns. Gilmore proves why he’s the best corner in the league and the Patriots clinch a playoff birth. We talked about their offense struggling all week, especially at The Final Count, and they delivered. I think a little dose of Cincinnati was what the Patriots offense needed. Should be a fun one next week. Cincy moves to 1-13.

Broncos 3-Chiefs 23

Mahomes was great. Love to see him throw the ball around. He’s struggled a bit this season with accuracy. But, he has a 64.5% completion percentage so it’s not the end of the world. The Chiefs get 10 wins for the 5th year in a row. Andy Reid is a winner. Broncos – Can’t judge how the offense played. Snowy weather. I won’t be grading Drew Lock until he plays 10+ games. I like him, but I’m hearing he’s the QB of the future already. Patience, Denver, patience.

Browns 24-Cardinals 38

Kyler Murray. He has all of the skills necessary to ball out in this league. Patience is a virtue with him, though, as he has struggled with turnovers this season, as most rookies do. Kenyan Drake 4 TD’s. That was a great trade for the Cardinals. I’m interested to see if they end up resigning him. The Browns fall to 6-8. Freddie Kitchens is somehow the coach of the team still. You have Jarvis Landry cussing Kitchens out and Odell trade rumors. Cleveland was talked about as a playoff contender in the offseason…

Rams 21-Cowboys 44

Friendly reminder: Jared Goff’s cap hit goes from 10 million to 36 million this offseason. The Rams decline is real. I am not sure who gets the blame. The abysmal run game has KILLED their rhythm on offense. Their QB play has been inconsistent, or just consistently bad. Or maybe the NFL has figured McVay out. Also, another note: the Rams don’t have much on offense for Goff to succeed. I don’t really think he should get all the blame. He hasn’t helped them much, though. The Cowboys looked great. They dominated from the start. Pretty shocking considering this spread was EVEN for most of the week.

Bears 13-Packers 21

This could have been the greatest win in this rivalries history for the Bears at the end, but the tricky did not hold up as the Packers held on late to beat the Bears. The Packers utilized the run game and it certainly paid off. Aaron Jones had 2 TD’s on 13 carries. Devante Adams had 103 yards receiving. This was a dog fight, as both defense knew they had to win the game. The Packers have clinched a playoff spot, and they are in contention to win the NFC still, but need some help. They are currently tied with the Seahawks for first place.

Vikings 39-Chargers 10

The Vikings took care of business against the Chargers on Sunday. Credit to Minnesota for beating a team they are supposed to beat. The Chargers has 7 turnovers, and the Vikings capitalized. The Chargers have been such a disappointment this season. Melvin Gordon, who held out for half of the season, had only 7 carries for 28 yards. I think it’s safe to say he won’t be back in LA next season. The Vikings are in possession of a wild card spot, but if they beat the Packers next week, things could get interesting in the NFC North.

Seahawks 30-Panthers 24

Russell Wilson threw for 286 and 2 TD’s. Chris Carson rushed for 133 and 2 TD’s. Not the prettiest game for the Seahawks, especially on defense, but they just keep winning and our currently first place in the NFC. The Seahawks defense hasn’t been what it used to be. They are currently 17th in Defensive efficiency, at 0.7%. They need to tighten up before the playoffs start. Week 17 against the 49ers should be interesting, as it could determine who finishes first in the NFC. The Panthers move to 5-9.

Jaguars 20-Raiders 16

The Jags and Gardner Minshew ruined the Raiders last game in Oakland. The fans threw stuff on the field after the game, and even tried to storm the field. It is a sad ending to a storied franchise. They move to Vegas next season. I don’t think they’ll have much of a home-field advantage. This felt like a matchup of two teams that have been nothing but disappointing this season. We had high hopes for the Raiders after the first quarter of the season, but it didn’t last song. We also had faith in the Jag’s until the Jalen Ramsey episode and then their season collapsed. At least they found their franchise QB. Now the question is what they do with Foles.

Buccaneers 38-Lions 17

Jameis through and interception by 1:08 PM. It was the perfect start to a Buccaneers blow out of the Lions. They have been such a weird team this season. The offense has been turnover riddled but they are certainly productive. Take away the interceptions for Winston and he’s an MVP candidate right now. The Lions fall to 3-10–1 and last in the NFC North.

Dolphins 20-Giants 36

The Dolphins had won 3 of 5 until last weeks loss against the Jets. They continued their usual losing ways against the Giants on Sunday. It was positive to see Saquon Barkley run the ball well, as he’s had a bit of an up and down season. Eli Manning got his standing ovation at the end of game. What does that mean? I personally think he’s done, especially in New York. He had a great career in terms of winning, with 2 Super Bowls, and he’s clearly lost any athleticism he once had. Time to retire, Eli.

December football never gets old. We saw playoff standings move, we saw upsets, and we saw a lot of good football. It’s almost time for the playoffs, but we still have two important weeks left. The NFC North, East, and West have yet to be decided. As well as the AFC South and AFC East. It should be a rollercoaster, and we are here for it.

5 Things We Learned on NFL Sunday – Week 13

1. The Eagles are a bad football team

Carson Wentz missed throws, the Eagles defense gave up big plays, and the Eagles lost to the Dolphins. Just when I thought the Seattle loss was rock bottom they managed to look worse. The offense was able to move the ball, but they still had numerous moments that left you scratching your head. Nelson Agholor looked better than he has but that isn’t saying much. Zach Ertz dropped a key TD pass late in the game. Also, can the Jim Schwartz era in Philly be over yet? Every other game for the last 2 seasons, the Defense gives up 30 or more points. It’s absurd he still has a job.

Somehow, the Eagles are still in a playoff spot. If they win out, they would make the playoffs. Do I think that happens? Absolutely not. This is one of the worst Eagles teams in recent memory. And I’m in full on panic mode about 90% of the team. At least they won a Super Bowl two years ago… right?

2. Derek Carr is not the answer at QB for the Raiders

We’ve seen enough. Derek Carr should be benched in week 14. After getting blown out by the Jets a week ago, you thought, well everyone has bad games. But getting blown out by an average Kansas City defense is rock bottom. There is obvious holes in their offense, and no way is it all Derek Carr’s fault, but we need to see more out of him to prove that he’s the guy in Oakland.

I also don’t think Gruden likes Carr. Just judging from a play calling standpoint, he doesn’t trust him and it often makes their offense vanilla. At this point in the season, the Raiders are not in a playoff spot at 6-6. If they want to get into a playoff spot, Derek Carr needs to prove he’s the man in Oakland and have a stellar end of the year.

3. The Titans are for real

Ryan Tannehill. If you told me he’d be a good starting QB in 2019, I would laugh in your face. The Titans were so impressive yesterday. All three phases, offense, defense, and special teams showed up. And don’t look now, but the Titans are still alive in the divisional playoff race. The Colts are slowly fading away and the Texans are within reach. The Titans next 4 games? The Raiders in Oakland, Texans in Tennessee, Saints in Tennessee, and then the Texans again in Texas. That’s as tough as it gets, but if they can win 3 of those games, they will be in a great position to make the playoffs.

And I have to mention how good Derrick Henry is. He wasn’t anywhere near my top 5 RB’s list before the season started, and now I’m struggling to find 1 RB that’s better than him. In his last three games, he’s ran for 496 yards and 5 TD’s. It’s time we mention him for MVP.

4. The Browns won’t make the playoffs

It’s a weird feeling being disappointed in the Browns. I’m usually just laughing at how bad they are, and now all of a sudden it’s surprising. They have a ton of talent, top to bottom, and they just haven’t played well. Baker Mayfield has been BAD, to say the least. OBJ has not performed remotely close to his standards. Freddie Kitchens might be the worst of everyone. He isn’t a good coach. I fully expect him to be fired at the end of the season. He’s clearly not able to get the best out of his guys, and it only took half a season to prove it.

What’s next for the Browns? Well like I said above, gotta get rid of Kitchens ASAP and start a new head coach search. Find a coach that can get the best out of your All-Pro receiver. They also need to find out if Baker is the guy going forward past next year, because he hasn’t proved it this year.

5. The Ravens and 49ers are the best teams in football

I get it. The Patriots will still somehow win the Super Bowl. But lets talk about how good these two teams are. Lamar Jackson hasn’t had a bad game all season, and neither has Jimmy G. Both defenses are full of a ton of talent, from the secondary to the D-line. Matthew Judon, the Ravens LB, has been everywhere on the field this season. Nick Bosa, the 49ers stud rookie DE, might win Defensive MVP.

It’s so impressive how the Ravens continue to look like the better team in every game they play. We have seen good teams win games where they weren’t necessarily dominate, but I feel like the Ravens have dominated every single game they’ve won. They have depth on both sides of the ball, and John Harbaugh has been the Coach of the year this season. I am excited to see how they are playing come playoff time.

Weekend Recap: Lamar Jackson is the best QB in football right now

What a great Sunday. The Ravens beat up on the Texans. The Falcons destroyed the Panthers in Carolina. The Patriots and Eagles were in a defensive dogfight. And how about the New York Jets winning the garbage bowl! What a day

I can’t forget about a wild weekend in college football. The boat has officially sunk as Minnesota lost to Iowa. I feel like Iowa’s role in college football every year is to just beat good teams and ruin their season. They’ll never make it to the college football playoffs but they are always expected to win a big upset every year and make it to the B1G Championship.

Michigan beat up on Michigan State on Saturday as well. Shea Patterson had his first 300 yard game and has looked great down the stretch. I think Michigan will end up winning out. They are playing exceptional defense right now and they are starting to find rhythm offensively.

Colin Kaepernick had a workout Saturday for NFL teams. He looks very average but of course the blue check mark brigade had something to say about how good he is. I never had a problem with him and actually loved watching him play but he isn’t getting younger. Also, he’s a vegan which doesn’t bode well for health. Cam Newton is a vegan. When is the last time he played a full season? Just saying.

Falcons are playing hard for Dan Quinn. Interested to see how the season ends for them. The Kyle Allen hype train might be hitting disaster mode soon. He has looked bad for a few games in a row now.

49ers had a nice bounce back game against a tough Cardinals team. Kyler Murray is very good and will dominate the league for years to come.

The Bears still suck. Last week, I thought Mitch finally put it all together but I was wrong. I don’t think I’ve seen a player just fall apart as much as he has. I put the blame all on Matt Nagy. He constantly leaves Trubisky out to dry with shitty play calling. And then he takes him out late in the game?? What a dick move.

The Saints had a great game offensively. It looks like Drew Brees finally got his rhythm back after coming back from injury. Don’t count the Saints out just yet.

The Lions defense is absolutely horrid. They give every QB in the league career days. Remember how mad Lions fans were when they traded Diggs? They need to go ahead and trade everyone else too. Awful.

The Colts got a huge win against the Jag’s. Nick Foles struggled after being out since Week 1. Brissett has his first game back after being out a week and looked really good. Colts Texans next week should be incredible.

Lamar Jackson is so good. He makes big plays look easy. Texans looked really bad especially on defense. Gotta figure it out fast if they want to win the division.

Vikings had a huge come back against the Broncos. Man, the Broncos play every single team in the league so tough. They are such a tough win these days which is strange because they aren’t very talented.

What a weekend. On to the next one.

6-0 in college football this weekend 🔥

Weekend Recap: We witnessed a game for the ages

Happy Monday everyone. We witnessed one of the greatest college football games in recent memory. LSU beat Alabama 46-41 in Tuscaloosa. If you missed the game, you have to watch the highlights:

The finish was picture perfect. I can’t say enough about how good Joe Burrow is. Every big throw that he had to make was made on Saturday night. And I was really suprised to see how much Tua struggled. I’m sure it was just the ankle but really tough to see. I live tweeted the game. Here are some of the highlights:

Joe Burrow had the tweet of the night, however.

Elsewhere in college football, ROW THE BOAT. Minnesota beat Penn State 31-26 in Minnesota. Tanner Morgan, the QB for Minnesota, threw for 339 and 3 TD’s. I think we got our answer on if Minnesota is for real or not.

In the NFL, we had one of the craziest 1:00 windows ever. The witching hour took my soul and I lost three bets within 5 minutes!!

NFL Quick Hits:

The Browns finally got a big win, beating the Buffalo Bills in Cleveland. Baker Mayfield made big throws late and their defense hung tight in the fourth quarter.

The Packers are a top 3 team in the NFL. Rodgers is playing MVP level football and Aaron Jones is becoming a superstar in front of our eyes.

The Dolphins and Bengals have been in a competition for the number one overall pick since the season started, and the Fins are losing after they beat the Colts on Sunday. It will be interesting to see how that plays out as we inch towards April.

The Jets offense looked really good today. Darnold desperately needed to just have a mistake free game and score some points and he did just that. It will be interesting to see what the Jets do with both Gase and Darnold as we approach the final stretch of the season.

The Chiefs lost another game they had no business losing. They did not have a good game defensively and Derrick Henry ran right through them. They also let up a crucial 4th quarter TD with under a minute left to give Ryan Tannehill and the Titans the win in Tennessee. Gotta give credit to the Titans and especially Mike Vrabel. The Titans came to play and it showed from the first snap.

The Lions were without Matt Stafford in Chicago and they left without a win. Mitch Trubisky had his best game of the year. Detroit’s defense has consistently played bad this season and it especially showed against Chicago. The Bears are at 4-5 and somehow still in play to compete for a playoff spot. THIS LEAGUE.

Dan Quinn’s job is safe. There were reports that Falcons ownership were using this game to track how this season has gone, so Dan Quinn will surely keep his job another week. I can’t believe the Saints allowed the Falcons to just walk all over them like that. Drew Brees was horrible. Put Teddy back in.

I blogged last week about Minkah Fitzpatrick being the best trade in NFL history. Ok, not really, but I did say how great of trade that was for the Steelers. He now has 6 INT’s this season since joining Pittsburgh’s squad. Don’t look now but the Steelers are 5-4 and have a really good defense.

The Bucs are back in the win column. Jameis had a great game throwing for almost 400 yards against the Cardinals. They snapped a 4 game losing streak. They face the Saints next weekend. The Cardinals have been surprising people this year, especially of late. They are competitive and I think Kyler Murray is the most exciting rookie this season.

I can’t believe we already in November. As we continue down the final stretch of the football year, I’m sure it will get even better.

The Eagles had a bye week. I forgot how much bye week’s suck.

Enjoy your Monday.
